A 100% renewable energy matrix needs long term storage to counteract the seasonal fluctuation of power generation. Current solutions either have insufficient capacity or are only economically feasible at a very large scale, needing new and expensive infrastructure.
Our approach is to use renewable energies to produce gas that can be used in the currently existing infrastructure and appliances. Vertus uses bio-electrochemical principles to produce biofuel with a high methane content from carbon emissions and organic wastes. This biofuel allows us to reclaim energy from wastes and act as a low-carbon long term energy storage method.
