In this spotlight series we are introducing the courageous, clever and powerful women in our Ladymates community.

To better understand the journeys of our Ladymates, we reached out to hear their reflections on pivotal moments, their unique strengths, and the goals that drive them forward.

So, let us introduce Brinley Meagher, Corporate Transactions & Startup Lawyer at LUNA!

Tell us a little bit about your career so far…

I am specialist Startup Lawyer at LUNA, where I helps founders establish good legal foundations in preparation for capital raises. On a daily basis I collaborate closely with startups on employee incentivisation, restructuring, investments, and exit strategies. Additionally, I have advised several venture capital firms and accelerators on investments and cohort readiness.

Before becoming a lawyer, I was a startup consultant, working with leading Australian and New Zealand startups to assess business plans, review legal frameworks, and prepare documentation to ensure investor readiness. Prior to becoming a lawyer I built my foundational skills in various business units across Apple, Oracle, and American Express, in roles such as startup consultant, account manager, partnerships manager, and legal executive relations liaison.

What is your #1 professional superpower?

I believe my range of experience allows me to think outside the box on growth strategies and strategic partnerships and work collaboratively with founders to explore the roads less taken.

Song you're listening to on repeat at the moment?

JOY (By My Side) by Joy Anonymous and Samy Virjii

What’s a quote you live by?

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams..."

Outside of work, what do you love to do?

Weekend market explorations with my floppy eared Cockerspaniel and catching some sun while listening to new music and people watching.

Why did you join Ladymates Collective?

I've been looking for a really cohesive community of driven women in the startup community beyond the surface level networking that can occur at a number of the events that we all regularly attend. Ladymates was promoted as a community, working together on the same personal and professional pain points, both in a casual capacity and in a formal learning environment. Ladymates has lived up to it's promise so far!

What's been your favourite part of Ladymates Collective thus far?

Ladymates has already proved to be beneficial beyond professional development. I had been having a tough couple of weeks with some personal events happening and my peer group created a really open, no-judgement zone for me to decompress and made sure I felt supported outside my usual personal and professional circles. Safe to say I've now made true friends for life!
